• El Cid, also known as Rodrigo Diaz Vivar, was born in a city in Spain called Castile. – 1044
• Made contact with the Almoravids, a Muslim dynasty that ruled Zaragoza. – 1065
• Rodrigo fought against the moors for control over Zaragoza – 1067
• El Cid defeated Golpejera, who was a Moorish general attacking Spain. – 1072
• Married his “love of his life”, Jimena Diaz. – 1075
• Rodrigo fought in the battle of Cabra- 1079
• Rodrigo was ordered into exile – 1081
• After his exile, El Cid traveled to Zaragoza to offer his services to a Moorish king, King Mu’Tamin. – 1081
