After El Cid was exiled from Spain he did not know what he should do with his life or where he should go. Rodrigo eventually decided that he should offer his services to the King of the Almoravids, King Mu’Tamin, who El Cid used to fight against. Because he offered his services to the Moors who were enemies of King Alfonso, El Cid had to fight against the Castilians who he used to fight for. Rodrigo did not last for long with the Almoravids, but he was very successful with his time fighting for the Almoravids. He invented new battle strategies and tactics and helped the Almoravids campaign farther into Spain. Rodrigo was so successful in fighting for the Moorish Almoravids, that King Alfonso Alfonso of Spain noticed how successful El Cid was, and noticed the new tactics was using. King Alfonso admired these these tactics so much that he recalled El Cid from exile. El Cid happily accepted the invitation to go back to Spain and to work for King Alfonso again. He once again started to fight for the Castilians, and because the Castilians were fighting the Almoravids, El Cid had to fight against the Almoravids that he used to work for. The Almoravids captured Valencia, so El Cid led an army of Castilians to siege Valencia. The siege lasted for two years, and El Cid and the Castilians were successful in recapturing Valencia. El Cid reigned over Valencia for four years until he later died of battle wounds.
